LOS PINOS CANYON – DIX BAINES FINE ARTIST
October 21, 2010OFF THE EASEL
Years ago Dix and I, with children in hand, visited the LA Museum of Art to see the Vincent Van Gogh exhibit. As we walked the galleries of the exhibit, I became aware that there were several paintings with like images, which at the time I thought was a bit strange. As my understanding and learning has developed over the years and as I have watched Dix paint, I have come to realize that often an artist will have an image that they are continually drawn to and have to revisit in different sizes and formats. The Los Pinos Canyon offers just such images and it is one I have watched Dix paint large and small, rectangle and square over the years. One of the first permanent collections Dix’s work became a part of was The Broadmoor, a five star property in Colorado Springs, Colorado. His painting “Los Pinos River” was purchased by the property and hung in the Charles Court Restaurant. Recently, Dix decided to revisit the Los Pinos area again in yet another size and format. This new painting, “Colorado Winter” will be delivered to the Hayden Hays Gallery, located at The Broadmoor, tomorrow. -Kathlyn Gogarty-Baines

LEHI’S DREAM – DIX BAINES FINE ARTIST
October 20, 2010NEWS FROM DIX BAINES STUDIO – ANNOUNCING A NEW PRINT RELEASE
Twenty-two years ago, Dix Baines’ Mother-in-law, ask him to do a quick sketch of Lehi’s Dream, from the Book of Mormon, for use in her Gospel Doctrine class. Forty hours later, with Handel’s Messiah for inspiration, the quick sketch became a painting. As Dix painted, he referred back numerous times to the scripture story and the references made to the Star over Bethlehem, the three crosses on Golgotha, the iron rod, the spacious building, and the tree of life; all of which he included in his rendition of Lehi’s Dream.
