"Desert Sky" 5x7 oil SOLD

Dix always says that there is more color in unexpected places, such as a winter of desert scene. In “Desert Sky,” the intensity of the sky illuminates the color of the desert landscape-KATHLYN GOGARTY-BAINES

"AUTUMN LEAVES AND ROLLING ROCKS" 5x7 oil SOLD

A couple of years ago,  Dix gave me a couple wonderful little 5×7 paintings, by one of our favorite artists Michael Ome Untiedt, for Christmas. Over the past few years we have added to those first two paintings and enjoyed our mini collection of Untiedt miniatures. We have enjoyed them so much that we thought that our collectors would enjoy this size as well and so began our Annual 5×7 Holiday Auction. They are an affordable way to add to or start a new collection. This size miniature is great to collect, as grouped together, they become a patchwork quilt of an artist’s work and history of his or her career.”-KATHLYN GOGARTY-BAINES

"DARK SHADOWS AND GOLDENROD" 5x7 oil SOLD

As an artist, Dix Baines finds it essential to paint on location, or plein air, as often as possible. As the camera never accurately records the colors of a scene, painting plein air allows for the scene to be recorded as closely as possible.  The added bonus of painting plein air, is smelling the smells, hearing the sounds, and being immersed in the life of the area being painting. Once back in the Studio, fresh painting in hand, along with photos, Dix is able to draw upon the memory of being in the place and put all those thoughts and feelings, along with the paint, onto the canvas. “Dark Shadows and Goldenrod” was painted on location.  One individual commented that it “Looked like Texas hill country.”  Anyone want to venture a guess as to where this little gem was actually painted?

"BLUE ROOF" 5x7 oil SOLD

Twelve years ago, Dix Baines drove into a sleepy little town in southern Colorado called Westcliffe, for an art show.  Twenty-four hours later, he realized that this little town was host to one great art show and that surrounding the town were numerous lovers and collectors of art.  The town sits beneath the Sangre de Cristo mountains, which in and of themselves are spectacular, but as he has painted in the area over the years he has found a vast treasure of images waiting to be captured in paint. “Blue Roof” is one of these gems.

"AUTUMN AFTERNOON" 5X7 OIL STARTING BID $150

During the time that Dix Baines spent at Gateway, Colorado he fell in love with the land.  He did exactly what he set out to do and that was to capture the land in all seasons and light. During this particular autumn afternoon, the colors were extraordinary and nearly every color in the spectrum was present.  The study that he did on location, did not appear to be much until he got back to the Studio and began to apply the paint.  The amazing landscape was soon captured on the canvas and in many ways captured by Dix as well because it has been an image that he has been drawn to again and again.
