Dix Baines will participate in the 2011 Colorado Governor’s Invitational Art Show and Sale, held in Loveland, Colorado. This is a landmark for the show, as it is their 20th year and a landmark for Dix, as it is his 10th year participating. The show is always a favorite for us, as it is an opportunity to reconnect with collectors and artists friends. As Dix so often says, the collectors collect his work, but we collect each of them as friends.

This past week has been a good one, as we have seen several paintings purchased by collectors and others shipped out to the galleries for the holidays. The Hayden Hays Gallery (www.haydenhaysgallery.com) received seven new miniature paintings that are just the right size for travelers to take home in their suitcases and Mclarry Fine Art Gallery (www.mclarryfineartgallery.com) received three new paintings. Since last Friday, six paintings have sold. Happy Day!

OFF THE EASEL
During the year of 2007 – 2008, Dix Baines was commissioned to paint the incredible area of Gateway, Colorado. The area is 50 miles East of Arches National Park and 40 miles south of Grand Junction, Colorado. The area includes the Unaweep Canyon, as well as Palisades of red rock, and is a spectacular area. During the course of his time in the area, Dix kept a journal, which can be read in it’s entirety at http://www.dixbaines.com, along with previewing the paintings generated from the area. The attached painting is only one of nearly 50 paintings, 40 of which are owned by the property, that have been inspired by the grandeur of the area.
“Early mornings are the best way to start at Gateway. I drove in late last night, so I could not see anything. I was pleasantly surprised by the color in the trees. A fair amount of gold, and green hanging on. I like when a single tree has a mix – turning from green at the bottom, to gold at the top.” DIX BAINES – JOURNAL OCTOBER 14, 2007

NEWS FROM DIX BAINES STUDIO
“I have been commissioned over the course of a year to capture the seasons at the Gateway Canyon Resort, in particular the Palisade, a dominant geologic formation that overlooks this property. In the spirit of exploration and discovery, this facility is to become a very special place to learn further about the wonders of the planet. It is my hope to record and share the sublime character of this landscape and the full spectrum of human feeling and emotion that it evokes.
In addition to the grandeur, the wonder of this place is the light, particularly the first and last light of the day. It is important to celebrate and depict the untouched look of this land and the range of emotions that it inspires: from lone and dreary, stormy and turbulent, to illuminated and even magical. Sunset is as much a feeling as a visual experience and hence the challenge of capturing the light”. JOURNAL – DIX BAINES
This is what Dix Baines wrote in his journal as he embarked on a yearlong commission at Gateway Canyons, Colorado. An incrediable area 50 miles east of Moab, Utah and just south of Grand Junction, Colorado, Dix’s task was to paint the area in all seasons, weather, and light. He fell in love with this beautiful area and over the course of the year and to the present nearly 50 paintings have been produced, with approximately 40 of them owned by the property.
